Resources for First-Time CEMS Operators

I often run into people in the CEMS world who complain that the “old guys” have gone off and retired or just aren’t there anymore to offer sage advice. I have to be careful how I respond because I am one of those “old guys”.  I did retire from my utility job, after almost 36 years, but started my encore career working for ESC Spectrum as a Senior Regulatory Specialist.

So let me share with you several resources you can turn to when you run out of ideas or need more help when it comes to CEMS. These resources are in no particular order of importance:

1. You Can Always Call on Me, Jon Konings (Yeah, An "Old Guy")

I do not know everything, but I have been around the block a couple of times and have played in this world of CEM systems for more than 30 years. So let me be that “old guy” you know.  My number is 512-250-7915 (let it ring for a while, because I move slower now that I’m older). You can also reach me at

2. Contact the ESC Spectrum Support Team

There are lots of really smart people who are answering the phones in ESC Spectrum Support. They might be younger than me, but there are a bunch of them and some who may have even seen or heard more about CEM systems than me. Plus, they’re available 24/7/365 by phone (512-250-7901), email, or through the Customer Community.

3. Browse ESC Spectrum’s Resource Library

There are hundreds (yes, more than 400) of articles, webinars, white papers, and other support documents posted on the ESC Spectrum website covering a variety of topics and issues, including all things CEMS. All of this content is available for your consumption in the ESC Spectrum Resource Library.

4. Visit the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)’s Website

EPA has an overwhelming number of resources on all sorts of regulatory topics.  Here are a few that I consult often and find the most useful:
As always, do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or ideas.
