J.M. Shafer Generating Station, Fort Lupton, Colorado is part of the Tri-State Generation and Transmission advanced portfolio of energy resources.
The facility, constructed in 1994, is a 272-megawatt natural gas-fueled, combined-cycle power plant with five natural gas/combustion turbine units, five heat recovery steam generators, and two steam turbine generators.
Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association is a wholesale electric power supplier owned and governed by the 43 rural electric cooperatives that it serves across a 200,000 square-mile service territory covering regions of Colorado, Nebraska, New Mexico and Wyoming. J.M. Shafer joins seven other Tri-State generation facilities in the ESC family.
